Gitbox App Reviews

Very, very nice simple git front end

All around solid git client. No, it doesnt support every single complexity... most people (even devs) dont use those. Two features I would like to see are: • The ability to select a range of commits in the history and copy a list of changed files. • The ability to open a repository in an external program (other than just Finder or Terminal) Other than that, it is exactly what I want in a git client. Very fast, and it stays out of my way. Kudos!

Only gets better

As I’ve said before, youll still need to understand git to use this application, as it brings over the terminology and process from the command line. But thats a good thing—this is a professional tool for git workflows. Integrate it with Kaliescope for a great way to view differences when you have conflicts. Ive been very happy with the speed and stability of Gitbox. While githubs client is free, its not nearly as flexible as Gitbox. I think this app is well worth the price.

great!

great app. would really like to see a few things: 1. I’ve got an insane amount of branches. Would like the option to hide branches that are closed. 2. Ability to start mergetool from the GUI. Currently have to switch to the command line for things like this.

Excellent but there is still room to improve.

I personally like the official GitHub client more, but it’s a pity I can’t use that for any git repositories other than ones hosted on GitHub. GitBox does its job well, but there is still room for improvement before it can fully catch up to the GitHub client.

Simple and Focused

Great add-on to git command line. It is not as full featured as other git GUIs yet if you are a command line user this is a nice add-on. I love the simplicity and focus of the tool and it helps to do those quick things. Really like it.

Use GitX as a free alternative

Author is unreachable via e-mail - the rebase functionality is non-existant despite the option being there. It does nothing at all. I’ve found GitX to be a great free alternative that does with Gitbox does but more.

Abandoned - Not Yosemite Compatible

Too bad. This was a great app.

Too buggy to not be update for this long

I’ve been using Gitbox for a few years, but have become frustrated because there are several bugs that make it annoying to use: 1) It does not play well with spaces. This is particularly annoying with .key files. Plus it is 2015…Macs have supported spaces for 30 years now. 2) There are sparatic resets needed where it gets stuck. I was pretty suprised the rating was so high for a $15 piece of software with basic bugs...

Still maintained?

I like the functionality and uncluttered interface. However, there is an annoying bug where the app launches and does not present a window. The only workaround that I have found is to execute "defaults delete com.oleganza.gitbox” from the terminal, then re-add my repositories. I wonder if this app is still maintained by the author, as it seems this bug has been impacting people for quite some time. I would be happy to change by rating/review if this gets addressed, otherwise I wanted to provide this information to other people before they purchase.

Good but Buggy

Works great most of the time, sometimes crashes and then does not show show main window on open. Only way to fix is to delete the app’s prefrences (or delete and re-install). This has been going on for months now, now updates for a long time.

Am very glad I bought the app

Thanks for a nice, clean, simple tool. I had only one problem with Gitbox, and I just solved it by creating an App Shortcut - I set Command Shift R to match “Show in Finder” and now Gitbox truly makes me happy. I find this far easier to navigate and requires less button pushing than any other Git GUI I’ve used. Would by again in a heartbeat. Excellent, every time

Warning: No updates since 2012

Let me start by saying that this is the best Git client you can find on Mac, period. Well, assuming it doesn’t break due to negligence and age. The developer, Oleg Andreev, seems to have abandoned the project entirely. No updates have been made since 2012, while Mac OS X updates keep coming. The interface has slowly started to break as the visual updates to OS X come with 10.10 and soon 10.11— while importantly, Git itself has seen updates since 2012, and the app’s ability to handle more complex scenarios is lacking and showing bugs and errors.

An excellent app that I use every day

I initially learned to use Git via terminal, but find that Gitbox makes it dead simple. I’ve also found that teaching Git/version control concepts to beginners is much, much easier using Gitbox to show what’s happening visually. I’ve got tons of hours out of the app and it’s been well worth the investment.

Great basic Git client

If you need basic Git functions without a bunch of clutter, Gitbox is a great app. Very simple and easy to use, stable, fast and a clean UI. Recommended.

Abandoned…and very unfortunately so

This was the best git client out there. A good balance of being able to get things done without a lot of feature clutter. Integrated well with other tools. The problem is there have been no updates since 2012, and OS X has come a long way. The developer never responds to questions. Must try to find something else. It’s unfortunate that this isn’t maintained.

Its great

I’m very comfrotable with git on the command line and I still love Gitbox. Simple and intuitive UI. Its just enough!

Looking for GitHub-style diffs...

FileMerge is a clunky way to handle diffs.
